NARGAROTH Unleashes “Twisted Steel” From Long-Awaited Album Apocalyptic Steel

German black metal band Nargaroth has released “Twisted Steel”, the second single from their forthcoming ninth full-length album, Apocalyptic Steel, due out June 26 via Season of Mist (Underground Activists). The track arrives alongside an official lyric video, now streaming via Black Metal Promotion.

“Twisted Steel” is conceived as a character study, portraying a fictional entity as vile and predatory as the demon depicted in Motörhead’s “Orgasmatron.” The track stands as one of the album’s most direct statements—raw, unfiltered, and devoid of the pseudo-intellectual posturing that sole member René “Ash” Wagner has deliberately rejected on this record.

Originally recorded over a single weekend in September 2014 at Trident Studios in Pacheco, California, Apocalyptic Steel features Mike Williams (Mummification) on guitar and bass, and Phil Cancilla (Malevolent Creation, Hank Williams III) on drums. The album was shelved for years while Era of Threnody took priority, only to resurface later. Drums were re-recorded at Skeleton Key Studios in Las Vegas in July 2022, with vocals, mixing, and mastering completed at AMP Studios in Duisburg, Germany between February and April 2025 alongside engineer Jens Forster. More than a decade after its initial sessions, the album is finally seeing the light of day.
