The historic final performance from Ozzy Osbourne and the original Black Sabbath lineup is coming to the big screen.
Trafalgar Releasing and Mercury Studios have announced the worldwide theatrical release of Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning, beginning October 28, 2026. The concert film captures Ozzy Osbourne alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for Black Sabbath’s final performance.
The film documents the sold-out Back To The Beginning concert held at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025, just 17 days before Osbourne’s death. The event marked the first time Black Sabbath’s original lineup had performed together in more than two decades and served as Ozzy’s farewell to his hometown and fans.
“Back to the Beginning came about because I asked Ozzy what would really make him happy,” Sharon Osbourne said. “And he said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you.”
A Historic Celebration of Heavy Metal
Hosted by Jason Momoa, with Tom Morello serving as musical director, the massive event brought together generations of artists influenced by Black Sabbath.
The lineup included Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Gojira, Guns N’ Roses, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Metallica, Pantera, Rival Sons, Slayer, and Tool.
The concert also featured all-star performances and appearances from musicians including Billy Corgan, Chad Smith, David Draiman, David Ellefson, Jake E. Lee, KK Downing, Nuno Bettencourt, Ronnie Wood, Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Steven Tyler, Travis Barker, Vernon Reid, Whitfield Crane, Yungblud, and many more.
For Black Sabbath, the night represented the closing of a career that helped define heavy metal.
“It was a closure for the band, and it was a good way to go out, I think,” Tony Iommi said.
Geezer Butler described the experience as “a wave of love,” while Bill Ward said performing with the band again felt like being “in a dream.”
“There’s never been anything like that that’s happened in the history of rock and roll,” Morello said of the concert. “There’s never been a precedent for a show like this.”
Crafted for the Cinema
Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning has been directed for the screen by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, with the original live concert directed by Tim van Someren. Jim Parsons, Jamie Silk, and Dan Seliger serve as producers.
Rather than simply presenting the concert recording, the film has been specifically crafted for theatrical exhibition, combining footage from the massive Villa Park production with behind-the-scenes material and reflections from musicians inspired by Ozzy and Black Sabbath.
The theatrical presentation will feature Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound, designed to recreate both the scale and intensity of the historic performance.
“Ozzy Osbourne is one of the most influential figures in music history, and his final performance with Black Sabbath deserves to be seen on the biggest possible stage,” Mercury Studios co-leads Ken Danquah and Andrea Dunn said.
