SLIPKNOT have returned with “Arsenal,” their first new song in more than three years.
The new single arrives alongside an official music video directed by SLIPKNOT percussionist and co-founder M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, starring actor Jackson White.
“Arsenal” finds the Iowa metal giants unleashing many of the elements that have defined their sound for nearly three decades, combining crushing riffs, punishing rhythms, abrasive electronics and the unmistakable vocal attack of Corey Taylor.
The track moves between metal, punk and hip-hop influences while maintaining a tightly compressed sense of aggression, with Taylor delivering one of the song’s defining declarations:
“I fought a f*cking god and the god lost.”
Elsewhere, Taylor takes aim at expectations, trends and the band’s place within contemporary heavy music, mixing confrontation with a dose of self-awareness.
