Heavy and doom metal icon Scott “Wino” Weinrich, the unmistakable voice of The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, and Saint Vitus, has released his brand new single Us or Them, taken from his fiercely anticipated fourth solo album Create Or Die, due out October 24th via Ripple Music.

On Create Or Die, Wino trades the stark acoustics of 2020’s Forever Gone for a roaring storm of hard rock power and folk rebellion. What began as an intimate unplugged journey soon demanded the crack of drums and searing electric guitars, resulting in an album both unflinching and cathartic — a record that fuses raw emotion with unshakable conviction.
“When a friend ended a letter to me with the phrase ‘Create Or Die,’ I realized that simple slogan summed up my philosophy completely. Whether it’s making music or art, that’s what I do. It’s what I live for,”says Wino.
A searing statement of intent, Us or Them channels Wino’s lifelong battle for free will, free speech, and authenticity in an age of division.
“This is another song about my passionate beliefs, music that embodies free will, free speech, and the struggle against the control structure that keeps the confusion and division in this time alive. A hard rock song that also brings to mind real friends of like mind who INSPIRE,” Wino explains.
Wino’s impact on heavy music spans over four decades:
- The Obsessed (1978): Pioneered “heavy and slow” years before doom became a worldwide movement.
- Saint Vitus (1986): Fronted the legendary Born Too Late, a cornerstone of doom’s early history.
- Spirit Caravan (1990s): Blended sludge power with soulful grit, paving the way for his acoustic and experimental directions.
- Collaborations include Probot (Dave Grohl’s all-star project) alongside Lemmy, King Diamond, and Max Cavalera.
- Solo works span from Punctuated Equilibrium to the acoustic Forever Gone (2020).
Still relentlessly creative, Wino continues to tour worldwide with both The Obsessed and as a solo act, appearing regularly at Roadburn, Hellfest, Psycho Las Vegas, Desertfest, and beyond.
