Finnish symphonic metal icon TARJA has unveiled the official music video for “Tango,” her latest single featuring cello metal pioneers APOCALYPTICA. The collaboration appears on her studio album Frisson Noir and brings together two of Finland’s most influential forces in symphonic and classical-inspired metal.
Blending the dramatic elegance of traditional tango with crushing metal arrangements, “Tango” opens with a seductive rhythm driven by APOCALYPTICA’s signature cellos. The track gradually builds tension before erupting into a cinematic chorus filled with guitars, drums, and soaring cello melodies.
TARJA’s unmistakable soprano moves between intimate passages and powerful vocal performances, telling the haunting story of a life that passes by almost unnoticed.
Speaking about the collaboration, TARJA explained:
“I wanted this song to be a special one, and as I have always loved the sound of the cello, Apocalyptica was the perfect artist to work with. Eicca, Perttu and Paavo made my dream come true.”
APOCALYPTICA, whose relationship with TARJA dates back to the mid-1990s, shared their excitement about finally recording together:
“We have known Tarja since the mid-’90s and working with her has always been at the top of our list of featuring artists or collaborators. It was so great to finally find the time and the song to work together.”
The band also praised TARJA’s influence on the genre, recognizing her role in redefining the combination of classical singing and heavy metal.

The accompanying music video features TARJA alongside all three members of APOCALYPTICA: Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso, and Paavo Lötjönen.
Presented through a dark, cinematic visual style, the performance captures the dramatic atmosphere of the composition while highlighting the chemistry between the musicians.
The collaboration represents a significant moment for fans of Finnish metal, bringing together artists whose contributions have helped shape the evolution of symphonic and cello-driven heavy music.

In addition to the digital release, TARJA has announced a special 10-inch vinyl edition of “Tango,” scheduled for November 27, 2026.
Limited to just 500 copies worldwide, the collectible release features the album version of the song on Side A and two previously unreleased recordings on Side B.

Frisson Noir features an impressive lineup of guest musicians
Described as TARJA’s heaviest album to date, Frisson Noir features ten tracks and an impressive collection of guest musicians from across the rock and metal spectrum.
Alongside APOCALYPTICA, the album includes appearances from Dani Filth of CRADLE OF FILTH, former NIGHTWISH bassist and vocalist Marko Hietala, and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith.
The album was mixed by Grammy-winning producer Neal Avron, whose previous credits include LINKIN PARK, SKILLET, and DISTURBED.
With its combination of symphonic arrangements, powerful metal instrumentation, and diverse collaborations, Frisson Noir showcases TARJA’s continued exploration of heavier musical territory while maintaining the classical influences that have defined her career.
