Swedish melodic death metal band The Halo Effect have released a cover of How the Gods Kill, originally by Danzig from their 1992 album Danzig III: How the Gods Kill, on June 20, 2025. The track, available for streaming at thehaloeffect.bfan.link/htgksg, is accompanied by a visualizer video at youtu.be/87aXwFRRu18.

The cover features soaring guitar harmonies, a thunderous rhythm section, and commanding vocals from frontman Mikael Stanne, reinterpreting the original with a Gothenburg melodic death metal flair. The band, formed in 2021 in Gothenburg, Sweden, consists of Mikael Stanne (vocals), Jesper Strömblad (guitar), Niclas Engelin (guitar), Peter Iwers (bass), and Daniel Svensson (drums). Following their second album, March of the Unheard, released in January 2025 via Nuclear Blast, The Halo Effect continue to build on their reputation in the melodic death metal scene.
The Halo Effect will support the release with performances at summer festivals and select club shows in 2025, find more details at thehaloeffect.band/tour.
