German melancholic heavy metal outfit THE NIGHT ETERNAL have released “Caught In A Spell,” the latest single and music video from their upcoming album, Cold Velvet, due out August 21 via Metal Blade Records.
Described by the band as “the perfect heavy metal soundtrack for a night drive,” “Caught In A Spell” pairs hypnotic rhythms with melodies and a singalong chorus. The accompanying video, directed by Robert Piel, follows a Harley-Davidson-riding knight on a cinematic road journey that reflects the song’s themes of wanderlust and the unknown.

Formed in 2018, THE NIGHT ETERNAL have steadily established themselves within the European heavy metal scene through their blend of ’70s and ‘80s-inspired guitar-driven metal, gothic atmosphere, and melancholic songwriting. Their previous albums, Moonlit Cross (2021) and Fatale (2023), earned widespread acclaim and led to support tours alongside BLIND GUARDIAN, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, ANGEL WITCH, and LUCIFER, as well as appearances at major festivals including Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Summer Breeze, Alcatraz, and Hell’s Heroes in Houston.
According to the band, Cold Velvet further refines its signature sound by combining traditional heavy metal with gothic rock influences, ritualistic rhythms, dreamlike atmospheres, and memorable choruses. The album was recorded between May and December 2025 at Church Of Sound Studios near Munich, Germany, with production, recording, and mixing handled by Michael Zech, known for his work with SECRETS OF THE MOON, SULPHUR AEON, TRIPTYKON, and THE RUINS OF BEVERAST.
The album has already received strong praise from musicians across the metal community. KREATOR frontman Mille Petrozza called it “Gloomy metal from my hometown. Beautiful!” while LUCIFER vocalist Johanna Sadonis praised the band as “the rightful defenders of the New Wave of German Heavy Metal.”
