Viogression Unveils Haunting Artwork for Thaumaturgic Veil, Out July 11

Milwaukee’s death metal band Viogression have revealed the artwork for their upcoming fourth album, Thaumaturgic Veil, set for release on July 11, 2025. The album, currently being mastered by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio in Denver, CO, promises to be a bold new chapter for the band, and its stunning cover art sets the tone perfectly.

The artwork, crafted by Brazilian artist Diego Gedoz de Souza, is a mesmerizing visual that captures the album’s conceptual depth. Featuring a muted palette of greens, grays, and blues, the cover creates a liminal, otherworldly atmosphere—a “psychoacoustic membrane” reflecting the Thaumaturgic Veil, a barrier between the tangible universe and unquantifiable magic. De Souza, known for his work with bands like Invisius, Netherbound, and Jamey Jasta, brings his signature gothic and horror-inspired style to the piece, blending surrealism with grim realism. His meticulous detail evokes themes of decay and transformation, aligning with the album’s alchemical narrative and serving as a visual gateway to its sonic journey.

Formed in 1988, Viogression—Brian DeNeffe (vocals), Lief Larson (guitar), Johnathon Ibarra (guitar), Jason Hellman (bass), and Erik Schultek (drums)—has a storied history, from their 1990 debut Expound & Exhort and tours with Death and Pestilence, to their 2022 comeback 3rd Stage of Decay. Thaumaturgic Veil marks their latest evolution, blending their old-school death metal roots with ambitious new concepts. Stay tuned for the tracklist, further album details, and the first single, which are expected to drop soon. Follow the band on Bandcamp viogressionr.bandcamp.com, and social platforms for updates!
