Norwegian metal veterans VREID have released their powerful new single “Kraken”, a monumental instrumental track written as the official soundtrack for the upcoming international feature film Kraken. The song is now available alongside a cinematic music video drawn directly from the film’s dark and myth-laden universe.
Rooted in the blackened spirit of Sognametal and inspired by the brutal mythology surrounding Norway’s Sognefjord, “Kraken” captures the slow, crushing inevitability of an ancient force stirring beneath the surface. Dense atmospheres, tectonic pacing, and a sense of primordial dread define the track, making it a natural fit for the film’s narrative.
Set beneath Norway’s deepest fjord, Kraken tells the story of a colossal, ancient creature lying dormant below the waters, poised to awaken. The film has already been sold to more than 35 international territories and premieres in Norwegian cinemas on February 6, with global releases scheduled throughout 2026.
Producer Einar Loftesnes describes the collaboration as a perfect convergence of place, myth, and sound, noting that the track captures the essence of both Sognametal and the legendary creature itself. Songwriter Jarle Kvåle reflects on growing up near the Sognefjord, explaining that composing music for this cinematic world felt like a natural extension of the atmosphere that shaped VREID from the beginning.
“Kraken” also appears on VREID’s upcoming album The Skies Turn Black, set for release on March 6, 2026, via Indie Recordings. The album marks the band’s first full-length release in five years and follows a demanding creative process that ultimately led to artistic renewal and some of the strongest material of their career.
