Iconic Norwegian dark music visionary Mortiis has announced his new full-length album, Ghosts of Europa, set for release on June 26, 2026 via Prophecy Productions. Marking his debut with the label, the announcement arrives alongside a striking music video for the album’s title track.

Directed by Claudio Marino, the video offers a cinematic and thought-provoking introduction to the album’s dark, expansive soundscapes.

A Creative Rebirth Without Boundaries

Ghosts of Europa represents a deeply personal and liberating chapter for Mortiis, who describes the album as a process where traditional constraints, genre, rules, and expectations, were stripped away in favor of pure expression.

Originally evolving from an abandoned collaboration with Stephan Groth of Apoptygma Berzerk, the record transformed over years into a vast, cinematic work shaped by experimentation, persistence, and introspection.

Drawing subtle influence from pioneers like Tangerine Dream, the album blends electronic rock, dark ambient textures, and industrial elements into a sound that feels both familiar and entirely new within Mortiis’ ever-evolving catalog.

A Legacy of Transformation

Beginning his career as a member of Emperor in the early ‘90s, Mortiis (Håvard Ellefsen) has since become a foundational figure in dungeon synth and dark ambient music. Across multiple “eras”, his work has continuously shifted, from atmospheric synth compositions to industrial metal and beyond, while maintaining a singular artistic identity.

With Ghosts of Europa, that evolution continues. The album channels bleak, dystopian imagery and emotional depth, reflecting both personal struggle and a broader sense of existential unease.

Star-Studded Guest Contributions

The album features an impressive array of guest musicians, including:
• Sarah Jezebel Deva
• Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy)
• Thorsten Quaeschning
• Laurie Ann Haus
…and many more, contributing to the album’s expansive and layered sonic identity.

The tour runs from April 10 through May 16, with Mortiis performing a special anniversary set centered around his landmark 2001 album The Smell of Rain, alongside selections spanning his storied career.
