American psycosmic deathgrind band NEFAS, a cross-country collaboration featuring members of Cryptic Gallbladder Splatter, Bedlam of Cacophony, Teeth, and Wax People, released their debut EP, Oblation ov Obliteration, last Friday, June 27, 2025. The three-track EP is available to stream and purchase on Bandcamp and Spotify, delivering a sonic onslaught of churning death metal riffs, ever-shifting grooves, monstrous vocals, and a representation of reality’s undoing.
Praised for pushing the boundaries of creativity and extremity, NEFAS—Erik Burkhead-Fernandez (vocals), Rusty Kennedy (bass), Rajan Davis (guitar), and Alejandro Aranda (drums)—brings seasoned experience from the technical, dissonant, and mathematical metal landscapes. Eric Hersemann of GIGAN hails it as “a proper, personal showcase of the impressive guitar/bass playing that earned Rajan a spot playing live bass for GIGAN,” while Metal Noise rates it 8/10, calling it “a debut of the highest quality… leaving you craving more.” Other accolades include Black Angel Promotions’ nod to “spacey death grind” and Apocalyptic Rites’ comparison to “particles in the Large Hadron Collider.”

The tracklist includes:
- Xenomorphic
- Spiral Degradation
- Mindstream Transference
Produced, engineered, and edited by Samur Khouja at Seahorse Sound Studios in Los Angeles, with mixing and mastering by Erol Ulug at Bright Lights Studio, the EP features artwork and layout by Moonroot Art. Fans of Cephalic Carnage, Intronaut, and Gojira will find much to enjoy in this high-energy release, blending psychotic tirades with memorable intensity, as noted by Mystification Zine.
