After a decade of silence, UK atmospheric blackgaze band Cairiss have announced their long-awaited debut full-length album, Wilderness, set for release on July 31, 2026.

The South of England collective has unveiled two visually striking previews of the record: the official video for lead single “Nervosa” and a fully hand-animated video for “Wildfire,” created by vocalist and artist Freya Brown. The releases mark the band’s first major activity since their acclaimed 2014 demo Disgraced, whose lone track has accumulated more than two million streams.

“Wildfire” (Hand-Animated Video):

A decade in the making, Wilderness explores themes of trauma, survival, and personal reconstruction. Rather than serving as a conventional comeback album, the six-track release examines the fragmentation and reintegration of identity through deeply emotional songwriting and immersive soundscapes.

Cairiss blend the ferocity of black metal with the atmospheric textures of shoegaze, combining crushing guitars and harsh vocals with orchestral arrangements, ethereal harmonies, and expansive melodic passages. Drawing comparisons to the emotional weight of Oathbreaker and the atmospheric melancholy of Unrequited, the band channels a cinematic aesthetic that reaches beyond traditional black metal conventions.

The album was recorded over several years at the band’s own ELM Studio and mixed and mastered by guitarist Ethan Bishop. The production emphasizes organic performances and emotional authenticity, creating a dynamic contrast between intimacy and overwhelming sonic density.
